GMs, Head Chefs, Team Leaders & Multisite Operators
A practical workshop building Performance Improvement Plans, helping managers move beyond being kind, and step in to being clear with their underperformers.
Avoiding difficult performance conversations can feel like the kind thing to do in the moment, but it rarely helps anyone. When underperformance isn’t picked up early, small issues become bigger problems, expectations remain unclear and people lose the opportunity to improve.
This workshop explores how to spot the signs of underperformance early, have honest and constructive conversations, and build Personal Improvement Plans that genuinely support success. Together, we’ll reframe improvement plans so they feel less like a process for managing people out and more like a way to create clarity, support and accountability.
INTENDED PARTICIPANTS
For HMs, Head Chefs, Team Leaders and Multisite Operators
OVERALL AIM
The goal is simple: give people a fair opportunity to improve and succeed, or help them recognise when the role may not align with their skills and strengths.
LEARNING OBJECTIVES
By the end of the course, participants will be able to:
Spot it early: Recognise underperformance and address it before it escalates.
Choose clarity over comfort: Understand how to have a honest, constructive conversation that make expectations clear.
Understand the why: Identify what's getting in the way of performance, whether it's capability, clarity, confidence or motivation.
Build a plan for success: Create Personal Improvement Plans with clear goals, realistic timescales and meaningful support.
Create accountability: Hold regular check-ins, provide feedback and measure progress.
Recognise the outcome: Know when someone is making meaningful progress and when an honest conversation about role fit is needed.
